Explore Norway’s rugged, remote, and beautiful scenery
Norway is the land of trolls and vikings, fjords and crags, and is rugged, yet gorgeous. The winters can be harsh, but full of fun, while the lush, green summers are splendid. Visitors to Norway have an amazing array of activities and sights to see. You can explore all the metropolitan trappings of Oslo, and then travel far to the north to see reindeer while visiting any number of things in between. Norway’s latitudinal range leads to a wide variety of landscapes. Several of the massive fjords have even been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Imagine exploring these vast expanses with incredible freedom. One of Planet Ride’s Norway tours by motorhome, snowmobile, or any other road-trip vehicle is a fantastic way to achieve that freedom.
Arriving in Norway likely means a flight into Oslo, as it is the largest international airport in the country. There are direct services to England, mainland Europe, and even the United States. However, you could also fly into Denmark or Sweden and then drive, take a train, or take a bus into Norway. Entry requirements for many countries are not very demanding. As a member of the Schengen Agreement, citizens of other Schengen member nations only need a valid passport. One important point to note is that Norway is not a member of the European Union! Once in the country, starting your Norway travel by train, plane, bus, or your own vehicle are all perfectly good options. However, make sure to take extra precautions if driving during the winter.
Depending on your tolerance for the cold, any time of year is an excellent time to visit Norway. Along with the varied geography, there is quite the variation in weather across different parts of the country, so make sure to pack accordingly. Generally, the coastal areas have milder winters but receive more precipitation than the rest of the country. Further north and inland will have the coldest, snowiest winters. June through August will bring the warmest temperatures.
A few other experiences that should be high on the list for any trips to Norway include the northern lights, midnight sun, and the remote Lofoten islands. Along the way, make sure to try a few of the local delicacies. There is no “typical” dish for Norway due to the huge geographical range and differences in climate. So, ask around during your travels. Along the coast, fish features heavily in the diet. Try some fiskeboller (fish balls) with bacon, potatoes, and cream sauce! Further north, reindeer meet is a common entree, along with elk and other hunted game. During the summer months, berries of all sorts are incredibly delicious.

Our motorhome tour spans 35 days and the entirety of the country! After meeting your guide and group, your Norway travel adventure begins in Oslo and winds through Aren, Svenningdal, Sorsele, and other cities, before reaching the North Cape. In this part of Norway, you’ll explore Alta, Lapphaugen, and Andenes before returning south. On the trip back to Oslo, you’ll visit Geiranger, Bergen, and a few other excellent destinations. Along the way, you will camp in relaxing spots outside the hustle and bustle of the city. Traveling by motorhome is a wonderful way to travel at a little slower pace, see a nice mix of countryside and city life, spend time with friends in your group and get the most enjoyment out of your trip.
Norway tours with a snowmobile are a little more high-adrenaline, and a bit colder, but tons of fun! Our current trips last eight days and will take you through the northern reaches of Norway. This part of the country, known as Lapland, is home to reindeer, indigenous peoples that herd those reindeer, and plenty of snow in wintertime. You’ll spend your days cruising along the deep snow, tasting the local cuisine, and taking in the sights. Nights will be spent in well-appointed chalets, where you can refuel with a hearty meal and some time in the sauna.
