Why choose Planet Ride travel insurance?

Why choose Planet Ride travel insurance?

The travel insurance we offer is not a generic policy.
It is based on a comprehensive policy specifically selected for the constraints of a motorised road trip, with trusted partners.

The Planet Ride insurance solution was designed to cover risks with a high financial and operational impact that may arise during your trip: accident, hospitalisation, trip interruption, cancellation, repatriation, disputes abroad...

This policy includes assistance, insurance and options under a single contractual arrangement.

Most importantly: unlike certain cover linked to bank cards, recreational motorcycle riding is not excluded from the scope of cover. This allows the guarantees provided for in the policy to be activated in the event of a claim involving a motorised two-wheeler (subject to the exclusions set out in the general terms and conditions).

A policy designed for adventure, not standard cover

Planet Ride insurance is based on a solution operated with Mutuaide, a recognised French specialist in so-called "Adventure" assistance (Paris-Dakar, Rallye des Gazelles, 4L Trophy, Marathon des Sables, Tour de France, etc.).

This expertise is essential because it involves a practical understanding of situations that are genuinely encountered on a road trip: a motorcycle fall, hospitalisation, immobilisation, repatriation, an extended stay, logistics for accompanying travellers...

Key point: Mutuaide covers motorcycle accidents, which is generally not the case for cover linked to bank cards, which often excludes motorcycles because they are considered a sport rather than a leisure activity.

Medical and assistance limits designed for international travel

A road trip abroad is rarely "a minor issue".
It is often a costly, logistical and sometimes urgent event.

This is why one of the main selection criteria is the medical and assistance limits:

Medical expenses abroad

  • €75,000 for medium-haul travel
  • €150,000 per person for long-haul travel
  • Overall limit: €500,000 per event
  • Medical excess: €30 per claim

Medical repatriation

  • covered at actual cost, with no limit

The policy also includes:

  • an extended stay (up to 10 nights at €120 per night),
  • repatriation of accompanying travellers,
  • management of impossible returns and quarantine situations.

These guarantees apply to destinations covered by the policy, subject to the exclusions set out in the general terms and conditions.

Cancellation, trip interruption and travel continuity

Because a trip can be affected before departure even takes place, Planet Ride insurance provides cancellation cover of up to:

Cancellation

  • €30,000 per person

Including in particular:

  • medical reasons,
  • serious bodily injury,
  • denied boarding,
  • and events covered by the "all-except" cancellation clause, such as riots, terrorist attacks or natural disasters, when they occur within a 100 km radius of the place of stay.

Trip interruption

In the event of an interruption, the policy provides:

  • up to €5,000 per person for unused land arrangements,
  • reimbursement calculated on a pro rata basis, based on the duration actually completed.

Personal liability and legal protection abroad

An accident or dispute abroad can quickly become a complex issue.
The policy therefore includes an essential core of guarantees:

Personal liability abroad

  • €4,500,000 per claim for bodily injury, material damage and consequential loss

Legal protection

  • legal defence included,
  • lawyers' fees covered,
  • advance of criminal bail.

These guarantees form an essential foundation in foreign jurisdictions.

Why a bank card does not replace travel insurance

Some bank cards provide travel cover.
They may be useful in some cases, but they are generally not suited to a motorised road trip.

Two major differences are often underestimated:

1) Much longer reimbursement times

In practice, reimbursements through a bank card can take significantly longer, particularly when the claim requires in-depth assessment.

2) More supporting documents required

Banks generally request a large number of documents (detailed invoices, certificates, proof of payment, additional supporting documents, etc.), which can make the claim more burdensome, slower and more uncertain.

3) An essential point: Planet Ride cannot help you follow up the claim

When you use the insurance provided by your bank card, the insurer is not the insurer for the Planet Ride policy.

In practical terms, this means that Planet Ride cannot intervene to:

  • speed up processing,
  • clarify a request,
  • help you prepare the claim file,
  • follow the progress of the reimbursement.

With Planet Ride insurance, you benefit from a single solution, designed and selected for your trip, for which we have a genuine ability to support you.

The excess reimbursement option (as a supplement)

We also offer an excess reimbursement option.

This option covers:

  • the excess applied by the rental provider in the event of a claim involving a vehicle included in the trip (motorcycle, scooter, moped, quad bike, buggy, snowmobile),
  • as well as towing costs,

up to €1,500 per claim.

Planet Ride's view

This option meets a specific need: financially securing incidents, without turning travel insurance into a comprehensive, costly vehicle-insurance policy.
It is a good complement to vehicle insurance offered locally, which often comes without an excess.

In summary

Planet Ride travel insurance is based on a single policy that includes assistance and insurance guarantees compatible with motorcycle road trips, and adapted to the actual conditions of the trips offered.

It also enables claims to be handled more smoothly and efficiently, unlike bank-card cover, which is often slower, requires more supporting documents, and on which Planet Ride cannot intervene.
