The Manali-Leh Road is unique in the world, as dangerous as it is, it is really worth it for a motorcycle road trip out of the ordinary. Opened only a few months a year, the road was built and is maintained by the Border roads Organization of the Indian Army. Manali-Leh is 480 kilometers and many hours drive through the mountains, with a dominating point at 5328 meters, at the Col de Tanglang La. You have to go through 4 big passes: Rohtang la, Baralacha la, Lachulung la and Tanglang, before reaching the top. The road rises crescendo the first pass being located at 3980 meters. Beware, crossing a vehicle in the opposite direction is really not an easy thing.
Manali-Leh It is valleys, passes, plateaus, it is many kilometers of sublime landscapes all as different from each other. The road goes through small settlements resembling tiny villages scattered in the mountains, allowing the many people making the road to stop for a tea, eat a bite, or even rest for a few hours.
Above Manali, the vegetation disappears little by little in order to give way to many desert landscapes, totally uninhabited. There are many military bases, with the region between Pakistan and China. At the top, a sky like you have never seen it so starry, offers itself to you.
Then we start the other side for about twenty kilometers of descent. The road is much better but remains dangerous. Some rivers even pass on the road. The latter nevertheless offers sumptuous landscapes.
Thrills, adventures and fantastic setting are the words of order of this unstandard ride!
