Set off towards the great dunes of the Sahara

Leaving Marrakech, you gradually climb into the Atlas Mountains before descending towards the rugged plateaus of Djebel Siroua. The trails lead you through the desert territories of Akka Ighan and onwards to the dry bed of Lake Iriki, a vast expanse ideal for thrilling driving. You then reach the Chegaga dunes for a night at a bivouac in the heart of the Sahara. The return journey through the Drâa Valley and the Fint Oasis extends this immersive experience among mountains, desert landscapes and palm groves.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Marrakech

Upon arrival in Marrakech, you are welcomed and transferred to your traditional riad, built around an inner courtyard. After settling in, you have free time to soak up the atmosphere of the medina. Overnight in Marrakech.
Day 2

Marrakech - Taliouine

Transfer to the Lalla Takerkoust Dam to familiarise yourself with the buggies and attend a safety briefing. You then set off towards the Asni Valley and Ouirgane, travelling through pine and juniper forests with views over the Haouz Plain. After passing through Ijoukak, you cross several mountain passes heading south. Arrival in Taliouine, the saffron capital. Overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 3

Taliouine - Foum Zguid

You cross the southern foothills of Djebel Siroua and the Agdir Meloul Plateau. Villages emerge among the terraced fields. You travel through the Aguinane Valley before heading towards the desert expanses of Akka Ighan. Arrival in Foum Zguid and overnight stay.

Day 4

Foum Zguid - Dunes de Chegaga

You cross the dry bed of Lake Iriki, a vast mineral expanse typical of the Sahara. After a break in Zaouit Sidi Abdenbi, you tackle your first dune crossings. Arrival at the Chegaga dunes and overnight at a bivouac at the foot of the ergs.

Dunes de Chegaga - Zagora

An early start to admire the sunrise over the dunes. You travel to M’Hamid and then follow the trails towards Ouled Driss. Along the way, you pass through Tamgroute, known for its ancient library and green pottery. Arrival in Zagora at the end of the day. Overnight in a riad.

Zagora - Ouarzazate

You travel up the Drâa Valley, lined with palm groves and kasbahs. After passing through Agdz, you cross the Fergara Valley towards the Fint Oasis. Arrival in Ouarzazate and return of the vehicles. Depending on your return flight, overnight stay in Ouarzazate or transfer to Marrakech.
