The stages of your motorcycle route

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar - Arrival
Upon arrival at Ulaanbaatar International Airport, the local team will welcome you and accompany you to your hotel. You will have time to settle in and recover after the journey. If you wish, you can set out to explore the Mongolian capital on your own. Ulaanbaatar presents a contrasting character, blending Soviet heritage, Asian urban dynamism, and the enduring presence of the nomadic way of life. This first day allows you to get your bearings and gradually immerse yourself in the country's atmosphere before the motorcycle adventure begins.
Day 2: Ulaanbaatar – Dashinchilen – 230 km of roads – 5.5 hours of riding
After breakfast, you leave the hotel early in the morning accompanied by your motorcycle guide. A private vehicle transfers you to the garage, where you collect your Royal Enfields and take time to get familiar with the bikes before setting off. The adventure truly begins as you leave the capital. You ride across the first Mongolian steppes, with the country's high peaks gradually appearing on the horizon. The landscape opens up, landmarks shift, and the road gives way to vast open spaces. Over the course of the day you pass herds tended by nomadic herders, varying with the seasons. By the end of the day's ride you reach the village of Dashinchilen, where you spend the night in the village's only guesthouse for a first immersion into the heart of rural Mongolia.
Day 3: Dashinchilen – Ogii Nuur — 130 km of roads and tracks — 4 hours of driving
You leave the village of Dashinchilen in the early morning and set off across the Mongolian steppes. The route begins on a pleasant, fast road before turning onto a track of variable condition, typical of this region, which requires attention and adaptation to the terrain. Throughout the day you travel through open spaces, with the surrounding hills as a backdrop and a constant sense of freedom. The itinerary allows you to fully immerse yourself in the steppe landscapes and the distinct rhythm of motorcycle travel in Mongolia. You arrive in the afternoon at Lake Ogii Nuur. Situated on the water's edge at the foot of the mountains, the camp welcomes you for the night in a yurt. You have free time at the end of the day to stroll around the lake or simply rest in this peaceful natural setting.
Day 4: Ogii Nuur – Tsenher — 140 km of tracks — 5 h 30 min driving
You wake up on the shore of Ogii Nuur Lake as the morning light reveals the surrounding landscape. After departure, the day is mostly spent driving on tracks through the vast expanses of the Mongolian steppe. As the kilometres pass, the relief becomes more pronounced and the terrain gradually changes, offering a different view of the scenery. You advance through an open environment where the horizon seems to recede as you progress. At the end of the day you reach Tsenher and settle into your yurt. You then enjoy the natural hot springs to relax and recover after this day of driving, in a setting conducive to rest and disconnection.
Day 5: Tsenher – Orkhon Valley - 80 km of tracks – 4 hours driving
You take the track along the steep-sided valley of the Orkhon River. As you progress, the landscape gradually changes: the steppe recedes and the landforms draw closer, announcing your entry into a more mountainous environment. The volcanic Khengai mountains appear on the horizon and accompany your advance until you reach the camp where your nomadic hosts will welcome you. You discover their way of life, shaped by herding, the seasons and seasonal movements across these vast territories. The evening is spent at the yurt camp, in a simple, warm atmosphere that encourages conversation and immersion. You spend the night on site, close to Mongolian nomadic life.
Day 6: - Orkhon Valley and Talbiun - 50 km of roads and tracks
You make the most of the early morning to fully appreciate the Orkhon Valley, when the light reveals the contours of the landscape and the vast expanses surrounding the camp. You then take the track towards one of the region's most striking waterfalls, accessible by a route that mixes riding and exploration. Back at camp, you share a special moment with the nomadic family hosting you. You take part in preparing a traditional dish, an opportunity to chat and gain a better understanding of local daily life and traditions over the meal. After lunch you set off again by motorcycle to explore the rocky and volcanic tracks of the surrounding area. This loop allows you to discover another, more mineral facet of the valley, while fully enjoying the riding before returning to camp for the night.
Day 7: - Talbiun - Karakorum - 75 km of roads
You set off northeast, following the Orkhon River one last time. The ride follows the watercourse before opening out into broader landscapes, marking a gradual transition in your itinerary. You arrive in Karakorum, the former capital of Genghis Khan's empire. Visiting the town helps you better understand the historical and cultural significance of this major Mongolian site. You discover the history museum, which retraces the various civilizations that have shaped the region, both before and after the time of Genghis Khan. After lunch, you get back on the motorcycle to continue your Mongolian adventure and reach your next stage, leaving Karakorum via the tracks that once again lead into the wide open spaces.
Day 8: Khogno Khan - Ulaanbaatar - 280 km on roads – 5 hours riding
You begin the final day of riding on your Royal Enfield as you head towards Ulaanbaatar. The route crosses vast areas of steppe and desert, with a wide-open horizon accompanying the last kilometres of this Mongolian adventure. As you progress, you fully enjoy these expansive landscapes, which foster a sense of freedom and continuity characteristic of motorcycle travel in Mongolia. This stage lets you appreciate how far you have come, from the first steppes to the more central regions of the country. You arrive in Ulaanbaatar at the end of the day. After checking in to the hotel, your evening is free to relax, share your impressions, or experience the capital's atmosphere one last time before the end of the trip.
Day 9: - Ulaanbaatar - Return flight
Depending on your flight times, you can visit the city and enjoy its very particular atmosphere. A taxi will take you back to the airport. Depending on your flight schedule, you can still spend a few hours in Ulaanbaatar wandering the streets and experiencing the unique atmosphere of the Mongolian capital one last time. This free morning allows you to reflect on the contrasts discovered during the trip, between urban modernity and nomadic heritage. At the appropriate time, a taxi will drive you to the international airport for your return flight. This final day marks the end of your motorcycle trip in Mongolia, after a deep immersion in the heart of the steppes, on the tracks, and through encounters with nomads.
