Motorcycle Expedition in Tanzania
Day 1 Kilimanjaro International Airport - Arusha
55 km
Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel located in a quiet neighborhood of Arusha, away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. Enjoy the serenity of the garden, the pool, and the view of the famous Mount Meru towering over the city. Meet your motorcycle guide and the other riders in your group during the evening for an initial briefing on the adventure that awaits you. Dinner is planned in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Day 2 Arusha – Matadi
105 km
Your adventure in Tanzania begins. You take your motorcycles and immediately head towards Kilimanjaro, the world’s tallest freestanding mountain! You skirt around the impressive Mount Meru (4,565m) before reaching your lodge in late morning, a 19th-century family farm located on the lush hills of Matadi. This first day ends beautifully with a breathtaking panorama of Africa’s highest peak.
Day 3 Matadi – Lake Natron
230 km
Today, you leave the vicinity of Kilimanjaro and cross the vast desert plains of Northern Tanzania. Riding your Himalayans, which are suited for savanna riding, you’re likely to encounter local wildlife such as antelopes, giraffes, and zebras. After a lunch break in the bush, the afternoon promises to be epic amidst volcanoes. In the distance, you’ll spot Ol Doinyo Lengai, one of the last active volcanoes of the Great Rift, known as the “Mountain of God” to the Maasai. Some sandy stretches make this day more intense than usual. You will reach your lodge located at the edge of Lake Natron in the late afternoon.
Day 4 Tour of Lake Natron
50 km
Today, you set out to explore the shores of Lake Natron, just a few spins of the wheel from Kenya. In the morning, you’ll discover the Ngare Sero river gorges and take the opportunity to refresh yourselves under the waterfalls and in the clear waters of the river. We’ll head east to the lake to observe flocks of lesser flamingos and other water birds, mesmerized by the pink-red and azure blue reflections. After lunch on the road, we’ll visit one of the last true Maasai villages before returning to our accommodation for the night.
Day 5 Lake Natron - Lake Manyara
120 km
A change of scenery today! You leave the shores of Natron to delve into the Great Rift Valley, an opportunity to get a closer look at the grand Ol Doinyo Lengai, still smoking, and to discover the beauty of the Tanzanian savanna, dotted with cacti and umbrella acacias. Be cautious of your tires, as volcanic rock is everywhere. To learn more about this warrior tribe, you’ll pass through Maasai villages to meet them. Tonight, we settle down at Lake Manyara, a picturesque and enchanting setting.
Day 6 Lake Manyara - Ngorongoro Crater
140 km
This stage is dedicated to exploring the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After breakfast, you mount your motorcycles to reach the park entrance and then embark on a 4×4 vehicle to fully enjoy the spectacle. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, this crater encompasses a preserved ecosystem teeming with exceptional flora and fauna. Its natural concentration of some of Africa’s finest migrating animals is a marvel: wildebeest, zebras, lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, hippos, hyenas, gazelles, flamingos… A once-in-a-lifetime must-see destination on this planet. What better backdrop for a midday picnic? Return to the lodge by motorcycle in the late afternoon.
Day 7 Lake Manyara – Lake Eyasi
130 km
Today’s stage is slightly technical, with a morning alternating between smooth tracks and more sandy paths towards Lake Eyasi. Depending on the group’s progress, by late morning or early afternoon, you’ll reach your lodge on the shores of Lake Eyasi. The afternoon is dedicated to a loop around this alkaline water lake situated in the lower reaches of a fault in the Great Rift Valley. You’ll have the chance to observe colonies of pink flamingos and exchange smiles with the ethnic groups living in the area. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 8 Lake Eyasi – Lake Burunge
125 km
You start with the first kilometers on winding paths before reaching smoother tracks by late morning. This section is technical, with tough passages requiring the support vehicle to bypass some areas. During this stage, the term “Adventure Raid” really comes to life! Once back on tarmac, we stop for lunch and to regain strength. In the afternoon, kilometers pass by to the south of Lake Manyara in a more rural setting before reaching your lodge at Lake Burunge, located opposite the Tarangire National Park.
Day 9 Lake Burunge – Arusha
145 km
Your journey is nearing its end. You take your time for this last stage connecting Lake Burunge to the city of Arusha, which we plan to reach by mid-afternoon. The arid landscapes gradually give way to the hustle and bustle of the city. We spend one last evening together to share the best moments of this raid over a local feast. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 10 Arusha - Kilimanjaro International Airport
55 km
Depending on your flight schedules, you have some time to enjoy the charms of Arusha a bit longer. You will be transported to the airport.
