Kigali - Ruhengeri
Today starts with a tour of the city. Kigali is surrounded by lush, verdant hills and is also called the Land of a Thousand Hills. There’s much to see from the craft market, Kigali museum and some of the memorials. After the city tour, we’re off to Ruhengeri, Rwanda second largest city and featuring a backdrop comprises of the Virungas- five volcanic mountains. We’ll arrive at Red Rocks Intercultural Exchange where we can meet with local brewmaker who make a banana-based beer. There’s other activities earn to learn about from basket weaving and other artisan crafts you can try your hand at.
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge - Virunga Lodge
Today we begin tracking Golden Monkeys in the Virunga National Park on our Rwanda tour. We’ll enter dense areas of bamboo and work our way into monkey territory. You’ll be able to even get an up close look at some of them as some of the monkeys here have gotten used to humans and can be quite friendly. You enjoy them playing in the natural habitat where they feed on bamboo leaves and leap from tree to tree. We’ll later visit the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village which is a non-profit organization that has been working to improve the lives of reformed poachers and other communities around the Virunga. You’re trip here will be supporting community-based development and other livelihood projects.
It’s time to start another day of tracking beginning our Rwanda gorilla tours. Today, we’re searching for the awe-inspiring mountain gorillas who are often considered humans closest cousin. You’ll be allowed an hour to watch the majestic gorilla in one of the most outstanding wildlife experiences on the planet. Tracking these gorillas in the light forests is a magical experience, and these massive primates are extremely rare- only 700 of them are alive today. Today’s going to be a bit of trek so be ready for it, but it’s completely worth it. Just make sure you have some boots, and long pants and you’ll be ready to go on this unforgettable experience.
Ruhengeri - Kigali
We’ll have one last hearty breakfast together before we head back to Kigali to wrap up our Rwanda tours. Here’s you’ll have time to enjoy Africa’s friendliest capital before we transfer you to the airport for your international flight back home.
