Cross the endless expanses of sand in the Tunisian Sahara.

Answer the call of the Sahara on a motorcycle trip in Tunisia where space, silence and sand redefine every sensation. From Douz, the historic gateway to the desert, the route crosses the salt flats of the Chott el Jerid before plunging into the Grand Erg Oriental, among dunes, rolling regs and endless horizons. You reach the secluded oasis of Ksar Ghilane, then continue along the old caravan routes of the Dahar, between fortified ksour and villages in the Tataouine region. Guided by a local expert, you follow a demanding route designed to provide smooth riding, easier reading of the terrain, and total immersion in one of North Africa’s great deserts.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 - Tataouine – Dakanus - 140 km of tracks and off‑road – 8 hours of riding

Meet at the Tataouine motorcycle base for a welcome cocktail and initial greetings with the local team. Picking up the motorcycles is followed by a full briefing, which covers the route, riding instructions and the overall organization of the stay. The opening kilometres mark a gradual entry into the desert world, with riding that allows you to find your bearings in the sand. The route leads to the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, an iconic stop in the Tunisian Sahara, where a break is planned to relax and enjoy the hot spring. Riding then continues south. By late afternoon the stage ends at the foot of the Dakanus, where the camp is set up. This first night in bivouac, spent around the fire, offers an immediate immersion in the desert atmosphere and marks the true start of the adventure.
Day 2

Day 2 - Dakanus – Lake Ain Ouadette - 140 km off-road – 8 hours of riding

This second day on a motorcycle takes you into the heart of the vast sand expanses of the eastern Erg. The route progresses through the dunes, with continuous riding in an open desert environment that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the Sahara. After crossing the large dunes, Lake Ain Ouadette gradually appears on the horizon. Fed by a natural hot spring, this isolated waterhole is a major highlight of the day and invites a timeless pause. Around the lake, you may encounter members of the nomadic R’baya tribe, who regularly stop in this area. At the end of the day, camp is set up to spend the night under the desert stars, in an authentic Saharan atmosphere.
Day 3

Day 3/4 Lake Ain Ouadette - Timbaine - Zmela Lebrissa - 200 km of off-road – 8 hours of riding

This new day offers an entirely off-road ride in the heart of the Tunisian desert. The route heads north through a new dune area, in a very open environment where navigation takes place well away from marked tracks. This part of the desert showcases the motorcycles' capabilities and allows riders to fully experience Saharan riding, with a constant sense of space and freedom. Over the course of the day, the route crosses the El Jebil National Park area, with a stop at the Timbaine camp before continuing deeper into the desert. In the late afternoon, arrival is at the Zmela Lebrissa camp, set amid the dunes. The night is spent under Berber tents, providing an ideal setting to rest, share the evening and fully enjoy the atmosphere of the Sahara.

Day 5
Day 5 - Zmela Lebrissa - Tataouine - 140 km off-road – 8 hours of riding
Last day of motorcycle riding, with a route that heads back toward Tataouine. This stage offers a great variety of landscapes and allows you to appreciate the richness of the terrains crossed since the start of the circuit. As the kilometers pass, the riding alternates between the sand dunes of the Erg and the more mineral areas of the Reg, offering very contrasting atmospheres and a varied view of the Tunisian desert. A lunch break is planned in a traditional Berber village, providing an opportunity to discover a way of life rooted in the land. At the end of the day, arrival is in the vicinity of Tataouine. This final stage concludes with a night in Berber troglodyte dwellings, closing the circuit in a unique setting conducive to rest and disconnection after several days spent in the heart of the desert.
