First steps in Laos
Your Laos motorbike tours begin with a tuk-tuk picking you up at Luang Prabang airport and bringing you to where we will be staying. Enjoy the day exploring the city and relaxing beside the hotel’s pool.
Luang Prabang – Kuang Si – Sayabury
125km - 4h of riding
A vehicle picks you up at 8:20 AM at your hotel. After having coffee with the team in our office you will take your bikes on a farming track to discover Luang Prabang’s surrounding. The small paved town is full of trails guiding you from one village to another. Discover the countryside through endless rice paddies and clusters of wooden homes. Along the way, stop for lunch at the beautiful Kuang Si waterfalls where you can refresh with a swim in the clear water of the falls. Ride your bike for another 50-kilometer on tracks carved alongside the mighty Mekong River to reach Sayaboury by late afternoon.
Sayabury – Hongsa – Xieng Hone
190km - 5h of riding
The off-road Laos adventures continue after a local breakfast of meat, local vegetables, or a traditional soup. Start the day on a mountain road rising almost 1,900 meters high. Atop lush green peaks, you will enjoy the occasional picture and hill tribe village. We have lunch somewhere on the way, depending on the speed of the group. The second part of the day is on a wide track which twists through rice fields along the Thai border. Arrive at our destination in the late afternoon where few foreigners travel.
Xieng Hone – PakTha – Houay Say
185km - 5h of riding
This morning, you have a local breakfast with the people of a very small and isolated village with only one tiny restaurant. Visit the old centenary Lue temple, hand-painted by the monks of the village and decorated with stunning Buddhist frescoes. Take to the trails by traversing several mountains and valleys leading towards the wild border of Laos and Thailand. Cross the Mekong River on a traditional long boat as you stand beside your bike, prepare your camera for this unforgettable moment! Immediately after crossing the river, you will be in a remote area populated by farmers and fishermen. Keep on a single track for several hours to arrive in Kamou and Lao Loum villages near the Thai border. Relax in Houay Say where you can treat yourself to a well-deserved Lao massage.
Houay Say – Golden Triangle – Muang Long
240km - 6h of riding
The first two hours are on the road riding towards the famous Golden Triangle. Luxurious, yet isolated Chinese-style casinos make this a quite curious setting. During this day, you will enjoy sitting on the Mekong riverbank to observe architecture and boats pass between three countries. This is the heart of the Golden Triangle! From there, the adventure and isolation continue as you ride along a dirt trail. Several river crossings near the Burmese border guides us towards a remote village.
Muang Long – Phoukha – Nale
170km - 5h of riding
Laos dirt bike tours continue as you wake to the call of roosters. Far from civilization, friendly rural people serve as the beating heart of the country. Take to the road in the morning by heading down into a valley via a single track to reach the small Lao Lum village of Phoukha Vieng. While on the road, stop for lunch at a local restaurant to regain your strength. We then ride towards Nale, a small fishing village in the middle of the Namtha River Valley. Bring a soccer ball to offer the school and partake in a great game with children of the village.
Nale – Oudomxay – Muang Nga
220km - 6h of riding
Another day of your Golden Triangle motorcycle tour starts. More mountain slopes, river crossings, and breathtaking scenery are waiting. Take a farming track through rice paddies and banana plantations for about 75-kilometers. The trail will take you all morning and is full of local Kamou tribe villages. Reach the road and have lunch in the city of Oudomxai before hopping onto another off-road track. Large and somewhat technical, the path takes you towards the Green Valley. Once settled in your guesthouse by afternoon, you can leave your bag and heavy equipment behind. Take your time with your guide to visit this small and isolated town dominated by an old temple overlooking the village.
Muang Nga – Luang Prabang
170 or 185 or 240km - 5h of riding
The adventure does not stop! After only a one-hour drive, you are within a dense forest for the next 85-kilometers. Tribal villages, stunning mountainous scenery, and technical challenges await. As usual, a guide ensures your safety throughout the ride. Hop back onto the main road for several hours before arriving back in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO’s World Heritage city.
Breakfast awaits poolside at your hotel; free of a guide, you have free-time for any last-minute shopping in town until your flight. A vehicle will pick you up to take you to the airport and our services end.
