Day 1 Bienvenidos a San José
Our Planet Ride team will welcome you at the airport. Then we’ll transfer you to your hotel where you’ll have the night free to enjoy the Costa Rican capital city. Now’s a good time to ask any questions you have about your Costa Rica itinerary!
Day 2 San José – Poas – Sarapiqui
Time for your Costa Rica motorcycle adventure to begin. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel because it will soon be time to take the reins of your motorcycle. You’ll start off by heading to the Poas Volcano famed for its 1,320-meter diameter volcano. It’s the largest and most active in the world. Once you arrive in his volcanic region, you’ll discover the wonders of the Catarate de la Paz and the treasures of the area. Then it’s off to Sarapiquí. Once an important city to the Huetar tribe, it was a vital stop on the trade route between the Incan and Mayan empires. Now the town is also famous for its stunning biodiversity. Enjoy a night in the rustic and relaxing setting in comfy and spacious nature tents.
Day 3 Sarapiqui – Boca Tapada
You’ll switch out your handlebars for a paddle as you discover the Sarapiquí River by raft on your Costa Rica road trip. This magical green river begins in the headlands of Costa Rica’s volcano chain. Here nature is beautiful and rich in different wildlife. After this lovely morning, you’ll cruise on your motorbike over to the Boca Tapada Region—located on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast. Boca Tapada is famed for its cornucopia of bird species including the Aras de Bouffon, a mythic bird from country legends.
Day 4 Boca Tapada - Fortuna
You are riding towards the Arenal Volcano region—one of the most famous destinations in the country—on today’s Costa Rica motorcycle journey. This area is rich in gorgeous landscapes and incredible animals. Take your pick and enjoy it by visiting coffee plantations, hiking, kayaking, or taking a well-deserved soak in the hot springs.
Day 5 La Fortuna
You’ll have the full day ahead of you to discover the Arenal region on today’s Costa Rica road trip expedition. Begin by walking along the famous suspension bridges that hang over the jungle and present spectacular views of Arenal Volcano. Then zip on over with your motorbike to the National Park where you can hike and enjoy other activities. End the day with another relaxing dip in the hot springs.
Day 6 Fortuna – Bijagua
Take it easy and enjoy one more morning in Fortuna. Then your Costa Rica itinerary will push you to the Tenorio Volcano via a lovely road that curves along a gorgeous lake. Here you find the Rio Celeste which sparkles vibrantly in a mystical blue. The area is diverse both with traditional villages and sustainable wind farms that produce the region’s electricity. You’ll be able to see not only the Tenorio but also the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano from your bike. Then you’ll end the day relaxing in your lodge perched in the tropical rainforest.
Day 7 Bijagua – Playa Grande
Today’s Costa Rica itinerary begins with an exploration of the forest where you can again soak into the rainbow colors of the river. For lunch, you’ll stop near a waterfall and have the opportunity to take a refreshing swim in the lagoon. Then you’re headed to the North Pacific Coast. You can enjoy the beautiful beach or take in the lively sights and sounds of Playa Grande and Tamarindo.
Day 8 Playa Grande
Take the day to enjoy Playa Grande at your own pace. You can surf, swim, snorkel, zipline in the jungle, and a whole lot more. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a nap on the beach or a day packed full of activities. The choice is yours!
Day 9 Playa Grande - San José
This is the last day on the road of your Costa Rica motorcycle adventure so enjoy it1 After a leisurely morning, you’ll head off towards the central valley and San José on the famous Panamerican highway. Along the way, make time to stop at Palo Verde National Park where you can see local wildlife. Then you’re back in the capital city for one last night of fun!
