Day 3

Phan Rang - Da Lat

120km - 3h20 of riding

Traveling Vietnam by motorbike doesn’t get any better than our trip today through fast highways and winding backroads. First we will make a stop at the Cham Towers Ruins that date back thousands of years and afterwards pay a visit to Cham village – the oldest pottery village in South East Asia. Then it’s down through valleys through some sweeping vistas. Today we also have our special “Coconut Bridge Challenge” and the winner of which will be rewarded with a bottle of local wine.

After lunch in one of the small towns, we head towards the mountain resort of Dalat—considered the honeymoon capital of Vietnam. But before we do that, we will take a quick trip to the waterfalls that lay a little south of our destination. Then we can just relax near the lake at a sidewalk café and enjoy some local food. If you have enough energy, you should take time to visit the night markets that take over the center of town after-dark or watch the local K’ho traditional Music & Dance festival.

Day 4

Da Lat - Lak Lake

180km - 3h30 of riding

Today we are off on the scenic route to Lak Lake, the largest natural body of water in the central highlands. You and your XR will revel as you twist and turn through the gorgeous landscapes of the region.

Vietnam is filled with ethnic minorities and hill tribes that have inhabited the area for many centuries, but the area around Lak Lake is particularly special. We will arrive early so there will be plenty of time to wander around this small town, meet the locals or maybe even feed an elephant!   If you are up early enough the next day, then a visit to the local markets is great opportunity for good food and unique souvenirs.

Day 5

Lak Lake - Buon Ma Thuot

100km - 2h of riding

Today it’s a short ride to Buon Ma Thuot which is not too far from the Cambodian border. Buon Ma Thuot is the capital of Dak Lak Province. The more we motorcycle in Vietnam, the more winding roads, the more valleys and the more fun we will have.

Lunch will be a picnic at the spectacular Dray Nur Falls. Afterwards, you can  wander to the nearby village or, if you are brave, consider a dip at the bubbling base of the falls. This is truly an oasis to visit. Upon arrival at Buon Ma Thuot, we will mingle with the locals where people are friendly, the coffee is great, and a stop here is well off the beaten track. At night, you can try your hand a making noodle Pho & Drum.

Day 6

Buon Ma Thuot - Kon Tum

240km - 6h of riding

As our Vietnam motorcycle trip continues, we will head to Kon Tum, the capital city of Kon Tum Province. We will again be cruising near the borders of Laos and Cambodia and experience a mix of roads winding through towns and valleys. Along the way, we can stop and chat with the locals as we make some stops in remote villages and have a picnic lunch across from a rickety suspension bridge that hangs at a perilous height.

You ca watch as the locals calmly ride across  carrying massive loads along the bridge that scares visitors just trying to walk on it! We will also make stops at tea, coffee, cacao and pepper plantations and at architecturally magnificent old church of the village.

Day 7

Kon Tum - Kham Duc

180km - 5h of riding

You will leave Komtum and jump onto the famous Ho Chi Minh Trail. This was part of the system that troops used to smuggle goods and equipment during the Vietnam War. This is how you motorcycle in Vietnam. Today it is a concrete highway that twists and turns its way through jungles and mountains. Be ready for major fun on this curved paradise as it drops into the jungle valleys and rises to the mountain ridges. There is not much traffic but you always have to remain alert.

Day 8

Kham Duc - Hoi An

175km - 4h of riding

Our last day of seeing Vietnam by motorbike will be reasonably long, but super fun. We will ride to the coast along Highway 49—a road that wanders through a landscape dotted with spice trees and fruit farms. As we approach the city of Danang (famous for its China Beach and the setting for the Robin Williams movie Good Morning Vietnam) you will experience the fun of riding the Hai Van Pass of Top Gear fame. This pass once divided the different kingdoms of old Vietnam and the views at the top will definitely make us want to stop for a quick snack and some photos.

Our journey by motorcycle in Vietnam will finish at Hoi An with a farewell lunch and some time to reminisce about the last week and all the adventures we had. If you are not in a hurry to go home or continue your journey elsewhere, Hoi An is a great place to stay a few more days to relax a bit more, and do that final souvenir shopping and seeing local landmarks.

We highly recommend that you take time to visit the world heritage listed old town and at night, its famous Lantern Street. There is nothing better than dinner by the lake while sipping a drink, or two, to complete your journey to this wonderful country.

    :

Misty Highlands was 7 days of absolute fun. The accommodation was good to excellent at all stops. The route chosen offered something for everyone- from twisties that seemed to go on and on, vistas that caused your eyes to open wide and grin even wider, visits to villages that tourists don’t get to see. The organisation and supervision by the guides and JJ was exceptional- everything was taken care of. Every day brought something new with the occasional picnic lunches a real treat. And the bikes- one word, perfect. From the largest of us at a healthy 110kg to the most petite, the bikes were perfect for the job. They would tip in on the tightest curves and would soak up any of the occasional imperfections on the road, especially in the corners. Small in cc (although at 150cc they are amongst the biggest motorbikes on the road) they are huge in heart and would keep you ahead of everything but the most determined car driver. The whole trip was great and I look forward to riding with them on their other rides.

Right from the very minute you meat JJ and the crew at the airport you know you’ve got the right tour company. Everything was taken care of from the very first hotel till the last and the hotel selection was perfectly picked and positioned to suite the area.
The tour itself was just fantastic, every hotel, every stop. You had the feeling that another crew had already been to the next stop and set up ready for you. The meals were amazing, the breathtaking scenery , the people of Vietnam are so freindly and welcoming ,I think I beeped the horn on my bike as many times as a waved to the smiling happy people on the side of the road, hundreds!
