Day 2

San Jose - Turrialba Valley

70 km – 2h of riding

Our first day begins with a two hour drive outside of San Jose and into the countryside as you start your ride to Irazu Volcano, Costa Rica’s highest active volcano. After this, we will continue south to Turrialba which is dotted with coffee, banana and sugar cane plantations and stay the night at Villa Florencia.

Day 3

Turrialba Valley - Dominical

200 km – 4h30 of riding

Today’s Costa Rica motorcycle adventure will start to stretch the driving muscles as we push out for over four hours. We will ride south on the Pan-American Highway crossing the “Hill of Death” to discover the exotic southern region of Costa Rica, Dominical beach. Don’t let the name scare you because it is actually quite beautiful.

Located south of Manuel Antonio, this area has in the last couple of years become a favorite stop for many tourists. Here you will find miles of unspoiled empty beaches, beautiful bays along the coast, and the tiny village of Dominical which offers many cozy restaurants and “sodas,” which are places that serve up local Costa Rican fare. In the afternoon, we will relax and you enjoy some surfing, fishing, diving, or just hanging at the beach. The choice is yours !

Day 4

Dominical - Manuel Antonio

52 km – 1h of riding

Today’s ride on one of the premiere Costa Rica motorcycle tours is only an hour, but if you want to make a longer one then you can drive south to Golfito and enjoy a delicious lunch on the bay.  As you turn back to Dominical, and loop through pineapple, banana and coffee plantations and pass on through to the famous port town of Quepos, you will come across Manuel Antonio National Park.

Considered to be Costa Rica’s most beautiful park, Manuel Antonio is filled with enchanting white-sand beaches ideal for swimming as well as a tropical rainforest forest teeming with wildlife. Keep your camera ready for the monkeys and iguanas who share the park with you.

Most hotels in the area are small and intimate and set high on a hill overlooking the rain forest, endless beaches and the national park. Options abound here! Whether you are looking for a romantic honeymoon hideaway or an action-packed visit, this premier destination has what you want.

Day 5

Manuel Antonio – Nosara Beach

350 km – 6h of riding

Today, we will hit the road for nearly six hours. But after yesterday’s relaxing, you will be ready for it. We will ride north to Nosara Beach and take the Pan-American Highway north turning left to cross over the Tempisque River. You will continue your ride towards Samara Beach and take the detour north to Nosara.

The Nosara region, which includes Playa Ostional, San Juanillo, Playa Pelada, and Playa Guiones, is one of the most pristine beach spots of Costa Rica. It is great for surfing, fishing, and other fun water activities. Also, we will hit one of its main attractions, the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge where thousands of endangered Pacific Olive Ridley sea turtles show up every year for the “arribada” or turtle nesting.

Day 6

Nosara Beach – Tamarindo

70 km – 2h of riding

This will be a relatively relaxed two hour drive on our Costa Rica motorcycle adventure. In the dry season, we will take the gravel road north to reach Tamarindo, one of the most popular beach towns in Costa Rica. On the way you will find plenty of beautiful beaches to take a quick dip in the water and cool down.

Both nature and beach lovers will find plenty here to enjoy themselves. Tamarindo is famous for its stunning beaches, its marine national park and wildlife refuge. This area also encompasses beaches that attract one of the largest leatherback turtle populations in the world. If you are lucky, you will catch peak nesting season in the area which is from October through January. Also, due to its consistently good waves, it is also a top spot for surfers.

Day 8

Tamarindo - Park National Rincon de la Vieja

165 km – 4h of riding

As one of the most dynamic Costa Rica motorcycle tours, we will continue north via Liberia and reach Rincon de La Vieja National Park. This park is named after the active Rincon de la Vieja Volcano which is one of the most accessible volcanoes of the area. You can explore the numerous cones, craters, and lagoons either on horseback or by foot.

Here you will also find fumaroles, boiling mud pools, steam vents, and sulfurous hot springs with therapeutic properties that you can relax in. There are also various tours are offered outside the park including canopy, horseback, hiking, and birding tours.

Day 9

National Rincon de la Vieja Park– Volcan Arenal

150 km – 3h30 of riding

Today’s four hours of driving will see us ride south passing scenic Lake Arenal and you will continue your ride to the Arenal Volcano area. Here you will visit the deliciously warm thermal waters and perhaps enjoy one of Arenal’s dramatic eruptions.

Arenal is one of the most active volcanoes of the world with cloud forests, a lake world-famous for windsurfing and an incredibly diverse population of wildlife. There is nothing better than the flawless silhouette of Arenal Volcano and its loud rumblings and frequent explosions of lava and ash are a sight not to be missed by any visitor to Costa Rica.

Jour 10

Volcan Arenal – Sarapiqui

125 km – 2h30 of riding

We are nearing the climax of our Costa Rica motorcycle adventure. In the morning you will have time to take a tour or explore the area on your own. Then you will continue your ride to the Caribbean Lowlands to the Sarapiquí region for some excellent sightseeing. This area is on the banks of the Puerto Viejo River, 42 miles north of San Jose and next to the Braulio Carrillo National Park, and is known to be one of the best areas in the world for bird watching.

The diversity of lowlands bird life is incredibly impressive. A biological research station and several forest lodges nearby have made this undisturbed habitat accessible to scientists and many travelers while keeping the natural landscape perfectly intact. There are various tours are offered by some of the lodges including canopy, horseback, hiking, birding, and rafting on the Sarapiqui River.
